The Purpose of Parables

13:34 Jesus spoke all these things in parables to the crowds; he did not speak to them without a parable.

Matius 22:25

22:25 Now there were seven brothers among us. The first one married and died, and since he had no children he left his wife to his brother.

Matius 25:26

25:26 But his master answered, ¹  ‘Evil and lazy slave! So you knew that I harvest where I didn’t sow and gather where I didn’t scatter?

Matius 25:37

25:37 Then the righteous will answer him, ²  ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you something to drink?

[25:26]  ¹ tn Grk “But answering, his master said to him.” This is somewhat redundant and has been simplified in the translation.

[25:37]  ² tn Grk “answer him, saying.” The participle λέγοντες (legontes) is redundant in contemporary English and has not been translated.
